And still more of the garden

More of the garden

The garden

Late lunch

We bought some food for lunch at a gourmet deli and enjoyed it with a cup of tea in the gardens. We had views over to the waterfall on the Swale.

Millgate House, Richmond

We descended into Richmond in sunshine, and checked in to the wonderful Millgate House. We have these grand rooms full of antiques. Out room opens on to the gardens.

Two thirds of the C2C completed

Whitecliffe Wood

We continued the ascent through Whitecliffe wood. Genni and I spotted some grouse but they were impossible to photograph. They very quickly moved behind some sort of shelter.

New born calf with mother

Applegarth Scar

We ascended a high hill under Applegarth Scar. The views were spectacular. The line of C2C walkers can be seen like an ant trail across the farmland.

Yet another style

Out of Marske we followed the road for a little while then crossed another styleminto farmland. Even though we walked on the road for a while it was very quiet and we rarely saw a vehicle.

Marske

We then wended our wayndown the hill to yet another picturesque town, Marske

These naughty chickens snuck inside

Elaines Country Kitchen

We made a slight detour and visited Elaines for tea and scones. We enjoyed a welcome rest in the sun and caughht up with some other Trekkers.

Rounding up sheep

Hay fields

After Marrick we went across a series of hay fields. The day was fantastic with sunshine and no wind. We had wonderful views across the Yorkshire Dales.

Grinton

We walked through Grinton then back along the Swale and across farmland to Marrick priory.

Perfect walking conditions

Farms on banks of Swale river

We walked across paddocks, mostly with sheep. This was a dog working to round up a flock.

Reeth to Richmond, 20km, 5.5 hours

Set off in sunshine after a pleasant breakfast at Ivy Cottage on the village green. We made our way back to the Swale again and followed along the banks for quite a way.
