We checked in at The charming B & B in the high street of KS. We then went to a pleasant tea rooms, The Mulberry Bush and enjoyed lunch in the warm followed by scones and tea.
Day 8, Orton to Kiskby Stevens, 20 minutes, 20k
With the forecast of gale force winds, rain and a warning to walkers to stay off the moors, we took the cautious route and got a loft to Kirkby Steven and the Jolly Farmer.

Orton
We may look happy but it's only because we had arrived in Orton and were waiting in the foyer of the pub for Steve from The Old School Rooms to collect us. We were cold and tired and relieved to have finished.
Arrived Tebay and had showers, then tea and scones.
Gale force winds forecast for tomorrow from 70 mph and gusts to 100 mph.

Day 7 - Burbanks to Orton, 7 hours, 20 km
We had a really interesting Faulty Towers experience at the Hawsewater Hotel. Out advice is to avoid this place.
Raining through the night and still raining in the morning. Taxi to Burbanks and hit the trail. Th e rain persisted but we were walking along small trails and paths through the farms. We arrived at Shap Abbey above, then Shap. Unfortunately because it was Sunday the local cafe was closed. We had tea at the pub then headed off over over the moors. By now the wind had picked up and the rain was heavier. We encountered sleet and hail....
